Todd, not denying the trade partners you listed out are pretty bang on & I would love to see Flames something like a Janko or Czarnik to get the return a little higher. But given the cap situation, I dont see anything wrong with the Flames taking a bit of an overpayment of a bushel of picks & maybe a conditional pick up to a first if he resigns with that team. The cap space would be really nice to have.
But I do like that Bertuzzi kid return from Detroit.

Maybe Brodie and Stone in a trade to the NYR in exchange for Kreider?

Brodie and Stone to Minny for Zucker and piece?

Throw Frolik in there somewhere?!

We need Cap space first and foremost for now. While and once our RFA’s are signed, then we can start looking more at future pieces.

Arbitration hearing dates are set for the end of the month, expect to have deals done 2 days before the hearing.

Benny and Rittich might be harder ones to sign. The projected numbers and term are all over the place for these gentlemen. We will find out soon enough however!

I don’t think it’s super likely he’s traded there due to them rebuilding but I’d be surprised if he didn’t sign with the wings if he goes to free agency. Detroit is his hometown team and grew up a wings fan. I remember flames tv did like a dream starting lineup or something like that and they were all red wings I believe. I don’t know if yzerman would be willing to give up bertuzzi and the other future asset it would take to get Brodie but that would be a great deal for the flames that would open up 3.25 million in cap space for next year

I dont see how the term & $ remaining on Palat (3 x 5.3mm), Killorn (4 x 4.45mm), & Johnson (5 x 5 mm) adds any value to these 3 and I cant see the Flames offering more than Brodie in a deal for either.

I think we can replace TJ with Vali and not miss a beat this season plus the cap savings in doing so would be very valuable. I think Tree should look for young talent or picks in return for Brodie unless somehow he can include Brodie in a package to add a top 2 RW on a good contract.

I don't see how trading Brodie for someone that isn't a clearcut upgrade at forward and/or overpaid (Palat, Killorn, etc.) helps us at all. The Pacific is probably the weakest division in hockey so we should be going all-in. If Brodie helps us achieve that, just keep him, losing people in free agency happens.

With Brodie, we have one of the deepest and more talented backend in hockey. Without him, we're 1 big injury away of being seriously depleted.

I am hearing that New Jersey and Arizona has some interest in TJ. Not sure what would be coming back the other way

I will forever remember the call that Panger did when Allen made a great save on Brodie mid air blocker side. It sounded like he came in his pants. Freaking hilarious! Look it up on you tube.

If it's NJ i'm asking for Kyle Palmieri. Willing to add Mangiapane and a 2nd rounder with Brodie.

Chiarot will be in Montreal top 4. You don't mention Mete who was playing with Weber last season. Not to mention Romanov who is coming in a year.

I think that ship has sailed.

Valimaki is going to be 21 when the season starts, has played 24 games in his career, played 6 less minutes a game than Brodie, was sheltered on the bottom pairing, and has 3 career points.

Sure, Valimaki probably has a bright future ahead of him, but it's ludicrous to think he's just going to take over Brodie's spot in the lineup this year with no ill effects.

I would hope Yzerman would be smart enough to pass on Brodie especially if the cost is Bertuzzi. Wings already have 6 defensemen under contract and that doesn't even include Kronwall (if he comes back) or young guys like Hronek or Cholowski that should either be on the team or pushing for it.

Wings already need to get rid of a few of those older guys on defense not add one more even though Brodie isn't that old. I would hope Yzerman would be more interested in Valimaki or Kylington if he were looking at the Flames for defense (not that they would look to move those guys) since they would fit much better in a rebuild.

I also don't think the Wings are in position to be trading a young forward like Bertuzzi at this point considering he played very well with Larkin and Mantha on their #1 line. They would just be creating a hole that they can't really fill yet for a guy that won't be on the right side of 30 when they might be ready to compete again.

Fact is we need to clear some cap space and it would be ludicrous to keep the status quo after taking a duece against the Avalanche.
Pretty obvious the market for Brodie is not as big as you have been preaching about!
Vali will take Brodie's roster spot but his spot in the lineup will be taken by Rasmus Anderson and the Flames will be just fine on the back end.

We don't need to clear any cap space if we keep the same team. A Stone buyout would likely be enough.

If we wanna add a top 6 forward, then it's another story. But Brodie would likely be a part of the package.

And Brodie not being traded at the moment means nothing at all about the market for him. Nada.

???

I've been preaching keeping Brodie is the best move for the Flames this year if they want to chase the Cup unless they could turn him into someone like Kadri. Trading him for picks and prospects isn't going to help them win this year and anyone who's going to be an upgrade for the forwards isn't going to give them any cap room.

Andersson also probably has a bright future, but he was also sheltered on the bottom pairing last year, and has played 90 games. It's a major risk to just assume he can be a top pairing guy when they're a team with legitimate Cup aspirations.

Overreacting to one bad series is also the worst thing they can do. They won the West last year and are getting two new banners. The season was a success. Status quo is not a bad thing for the Flames.

I think the lower cap is what has hurt Brodie's trade value. This year, cap space is at a premium. In an ideal world, I'd like to keep Brodie and trade Stone. If eating Marleau's contract costs a 1st, maybe a 2nd for Stone ? It sucks but it would give the Flames a better team this season and a bit of extra cap room next season...because they don't have to buy him out. Being that Brodie has already been traded once, the ship may have already sailed on any scenario TJ stays.

Lemme know how that works out for you and Puljujaarvi. And Lucic. And Kassian. And Gagner. And Granlund. Larsson, Russell, Manning and Koskinen.

In fact, here's what the Flames are prepared to offer the Oilers TODAY for Pujujaarvi:

And no, Jeff Goldblum does not come as part of the package.

Yeah , it’s going to take more then just Brodie to get Bertuzzi I would say . If I’m any team I am all ears with Janko though

I’m with you on this . I don’t think Brodie does get it done though as they won’t want any salary in return . They need to cap dump

That’s a really good point . If you can get an upgrade in the top six what’s the point really ? Maybe at the trade deadline when teams are selling off it could make more sense .
